Service to Others

Catholic education is a MINISTRY of the church. “Catholic schools afford the fullest and best opportunity to realize the fourfold purpose of Christian education, namely to provide an atmosphere in which the Gospel message is proclaimed, community in Christ is experienced, service to our sisters and brothers is the norm, and thanksgiving and worship of our God is cultivated.” – Renewing our Commitment to Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools in the Third Millennium, USCCB

Inspired by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and rooted in our Catholic faith, Seton Catholic School fosters spiritual development, academic excellence, responsibility to self, and service to others.

Our Seton Catholic School students live out our mission statement daily, therefore, our students are immersed in rigorous academic programing, which includes Religious Education.

The Seton Catholic School Religious Education Program provides a program whereby the Catholic faith is not only taught but also experienced in our daily lives. Participation in religious instruction is required of all students. Our program includes: daily religion class, prayer times, liturgical and para-liturgical opportunities, Advent and Lenten observances, service to the church, school, and community and Diocesan curriculum on Christian formation in sexuality.

In support of our mission statement and our educational programing, all of our students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade are engaged in service to the home, church, school and community throughout the entire school year. Additionally, our students in grades 6-8 are required to fulfill a specific number of service hours and reflection requirements.

Middle School Service Requirements

GRADE 8: 8th grade students are required to complete four (4) hours of service each academic quarter, participate in a Service Experience Day of Sharing, and turn in a completed Service Experience Log Sheet at the end of each quarter.

GRADE 7: 7th grade students are required to complete three (3) hours of service each academic quarter, participate in a Service Experience Day of Sharing, and turn in a completed Service Experience Log Sheet at the end of each quarter.

GRADE 6: 6th grade students are required to complete two (2) hours of service each academic quarter, participate in a Service Experience Day of Sharing, and turn in a completed Service Experience Log Sheet at the end of each quarter.

It is strongly encouraged that the total number of service hours are made up of a minimum of at least two (2) different experiences.

Service experience opportunities are everywhere! In your community, your school, your home, your parish, and more.

Please remember that any service opportunities for home should not be your usual chores and you may not receive any pay/allowance.

Your child’s Religion teacher will review many service opportunities in religion class and will post a variety of ideas on Google Classroom. Be creative and do not hesitate to ask the teacher if you have a service opportunity that you would like to be considered. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me, as well.
