U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
DESIGNATES SETON CATHOLIC SCHOOL
2009 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced on September 15, 2009 that Seton Catholic School of Hudson has been awarded the recognition of 2009 National Blue Ribbon School.

Seton Catholic School will be honored at an awards ceremony on November 3rd at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. For the past 27 years, public and private schools have received this coveted award.

“These Blue Ribbon Schools have shown that all children can learn with appropriate supports,” Duncan said. “They are producing outstanding results for their students. They are places where improved teaching and learning benefits every student, and where students are challenged to meet high expectations with the active support of teachers, parents and the community.”

Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals. Using standards of excellence, as evidenced by student achievement measures and the characteristics known from research to exemplify school quality, the Department celebrates the schools.

Seton Catholic School Student Wins Spelling Bee
Alex Csorba, eighth grade student at Seton Catholic School won the Akron Beacon Journal Regional Spelling Bee, Saturday, March 14, 2009.  The event took place at the Akron-Summit County Public Library downtown.  Alex traveled to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee May 26-28, 2009.  After a tension-building 18 rounds of competition, Alex correctly spelled Graphospasm (a Greek word defined as a painful cramp of muscles of the hand or fingers brought on by excessive writing) to become champion and earn the trip to Washington.

New lockers for 3rd and 4th grade students!

Installation on a Saturday morning last year with parent volunteers was greatly appreciated.  The spirit of giving is always evident within the Seton community.  Thank you!
